Frequently asked questions
How many kbps is 1 Mbps?
1 Mbps is 1,000 kbps. Bitrate prefixes are decimal: 1 kbps = 1,000 bit/s, 1 Mbps = 1,000,000 bit/s and 1 Gbps = 1,000,000,000 bit/s.
How do I convert Mbps to MB/s?
Divide by 8. A 100 Mbps connection transfers at most 12.5 MB/s. In practice protocol overhead makes real downloads a few percent slower.
What is the difference between MB/s and MiB/s?
MB/s counts decimal megabytes (1,000,000 bytes); MiB/s counts binary mebibytes (1,048,576 bytes). Many download managers show MiB/s but label it MB/s, which is why they can read about 5% lower.
